Shutting It Down

I'm thinking of shutting down Cross Stitch News. It was a good idea, I think, but the end result isn't as interesting as I would like. More importantly, though, I just don't have the time to deal with it now. Ok, perhaps it's more accurate to say that I don't want to put the time into it. It's just not holding my interest as much as stitching itself does, for instance. I think it might be time to let this one go. If anyone's interested in taking it over, let me know, but I will probably shut it down within a few days.

She has a lot of dragons, but she also has some historical and impressionistic designs, as well as science themed ones. It's quite a broad range.

Women Watching Baseball

The Philadelphia Inquirer has an article about women who love to watch baseball. Among other items that the Phillies are using to promote interest among women, there is a mention of their Stitch n' Pitch, which will be held Aug 5 this year.

"Since then they've added a line of women's shirts and hats and Stitch n'Pitch Night, an evening when needle arts enthusiasts are invited to knit, crochet, embroider or cross-stitch their way through a game with a discounted admission price. This year's Stitch n'Pitch is slated for Aug. 5."

I actually find it interesting how computer games are becoming a popular motif. Fantasy images (fairies, unicorns, dragons) have been popular cross stitch designs for awhile now, so I don't think there's anything new about "geeks" being interested in cross stitch. But, this is a new genre for the hobby.

Also, this article is yet another mention of Dark Lilac's chart generator. If you haven't checked it out yet, and you're interesed in creating your own designs from photos and other graphics, you really should take a peak at it.

Thanks to the Ottawa Citizen's article about the 10 Best Canadian Military Memorial Sites, I discovered this interesting item:

"9. D-Day Museum and Overlord Embroidery, Portsmouth, England: Telling the story of Operation Overlord from its origins in the dark days of 1940 to victory in Normandy in 1944, the museum features the amazing Overlord Embroidery, a modern-day counterpart to the Bayeux Tapestry."

I had never heard of the Overlord Embroidery, so of course I had to look it up. There's some history about how it was created here. It actually sounds like it's an applique design. The designer,
Sandra Lawrence, has a site talking about it here, including pictures.
