Thanks to the Ottawa Citizen's article about the 10 Best Canadian Military Memorial Sites, I discovered this interesting item:
"9. D-Day Museum and Overlord Embroidery, Portsmouth, England: Telling the story of Operation Overlord from its origins in the dark days of 1940 to victory in Normandy in 1944, the museum features the amazing Overlord Embroidery, a modern-day counterpart to the Bayeux Tapestry."
I had never heard of the Overlord Embroidery, so of course I had to look it up. There's some history about how it was created here. It actually sounds like it's an applique design. The designer,
Sandra Lawrence, has a site talking about it here, including pictures.
